The house is almost done. The plaster is dry, the flooring is in, and now everyone has an opinion about the kitchen.
Then the first interior quote arrives, and the number makes you sit down.
Ask five people about the cost of interior design in Gurgaon and you'll get five numbers. It's because "interiors" can mean a few wardrobes, or it can mean every ceiling, wall, light and handle in the house. This guide shows what actually moves the price, so you can read any quote clearly.
Quick answer: The cost of interior design in Gurgaon depends mostly on scope: which rooms and items you want, then carcass material, finish, hardware, false ceiling and lighting, and any civil changes. Designers charge a design fee, a fee plus supervision, or a turnkey price. Write a room-by-room list and compare quotes on the same scope.
Why there is no single interior design cost in Gurgaon
A per square foot figure sounds simple. It hides almost everything.
One owner wants a modular kitchen, three wardrobes and a TV unit. The other wants false ceilings in every room, wall panelling, a puja unit, a bar counter and imported fittings. Both call it "full interiors".
So before you compare any numbers, fix what you are buying.
How interior designers in Gurgaon charge
Every interior designer in Gurgaon has their own way of pricing, but most work in one of these ways:
- Design fee only. You pay for drawings, 3D views and choices of material. You hire the carpenter, electrician and painter yourself, or the designer recommends them.
- Design fee plus site supervision. Same as above, with regular site visits to check the work.
- Design and build (turnkey). One firm designs, buys materials and builds. You get one quote for the whole job.
- Factory-made modular only. Kitchens and wardrobes made in a factory and fitted on site. Design is often bundled in.
Design fees may be a percentage of the project value, a rate per square foot, or a fixed sum. None is wrong. What matters is what the fee covers and how many revisions you get.
With turnkey quotes, ask for design and execution to be shown separately.
Cost of interior design in Gurgaon: what drives the price
These are the things that move your bill the most, roughly in order.
1. Scope: which rooms, which items
The biggest lever. Write a room-by-room list before you call anyone. Kitchen, wardrobes, TV unit, beds, study table, shoe rack, false ceiling, wall treatments, lights, curtains, loose furniture. Each line adds cost.
2. Carcass material for furniture
The box of a cabinet or wardrobe is the carcass. Common choices are plywood, MDF, particle board and newer materials such as WPC or HDHMR boards. They differ in strength, moisture resistance and price.
For plywood, ask which grade is quoted. The Bureau of Indian Standards has separate standards for plywood for general purposes (IS 303:2024) and marine plywood (IS 710:2024). In wet areas such as under the kitchen sink, a water-resistant grade makes sense. A quote that just says "ply" tells you nothing. The documentation must establish the claimed grade and standard; a "BWP" label alone does not prove compliance with IS 710.
3. Finish: laminate, veneer, acrylic, paint, PU
The outer surface can cost more than the box behind it. As a general tendency, laminate tends to be the more budget-friendly option, while acrylic, veneer and PU paint finishes often cost more and need more careful work. Actual costs depend on the grade, the board underneath, the finish quality, the installation and the supplier. Ask for the exact finish and thickness for each item.
When people ask about modular kitchen and wardrobe cost, the carcass, the finish and the hardware are usually what make the difference between two quotes for the same layout.
4. Hardware
Hinges, channels, lift-up fittings, tall units, corner carousels and soft-close drawers add up fast. A wardrobe with basic hinges and one with soft-close everything can look the same on a drawing. Ask for brands and a count of fittings, not "good quality hardware".
5. False ceiling, lighting and electrical work
Gypsum ceilings, cove lights, profile lights and extra electrical points are often quoted as separate lines. In a new house, plan them before the walls are finished.
6. Civil changes
Moving a kitchen sink, shifting a wall or relaying flooring turns interior work into small civil work. Get these priced on their own.
7. Who is doing the work, and how fast
A firm with its own factory will often price differently from a carpenter team with a freelance designer. A tight deadline can also push the price up.
Why we don't give price ranges
You won't find a rupee range per square foot in this guide, on purpose. Interior prices vary with scope, material and brand, and they change over time. Written quotes on your own scope are the only numbers worth comparing.
A worked example: comparing two quotes
The figures below are hypothetical, made up only to show the method. They are not real Gurgaon prices.
Say you get two quotes for a kitchen and two wardrobes:
- Quote A (hypothetical): ₹4,00,000. Carcass in plywood specified by grade and applicable standard, with documentation to be provided, laminate finish, soft-close hardware with the brand named, installation and taxes included.
- Quote B (hypothetical): ₹3,20,000. Carcass described only as "ply", laminate finish, hardware brand not named, taxes extra, loft units not included.
Quote B looks ₹80,000 cheaper. Now line them up. Ask B to name the plywood grade and the hardware brand, add taxes, and price the loft units. Once both cover the same scope, the gap may shrink or even flip.
Interior design cost checklist: what every quote should list
Use this when quotes come in. Anything missing is a question to ask, not a reason to sign.
- Room-by-room list of items, with sizes
- Carcass material and grade for each item
- Finish for each item: laminate, veneer, acrylic or paint, with thickness
- Hardware brand and the number of fittings
- False ceiling area and type
- Electrical and lighting points included
- Paint, if included, with brand and number of coats
- Civil work, plumbing changes and debris removal
- Taxes shown clearly
- Design fee and number of design revisions
- Number of site visits
- Timeline, with stages
- Warranty on materials and on workmanship, in writing
- What is excluded: appliances, loose furniture, curtains, decor, chimney and hob
Put the quotes side by side. If one is much lower, look for a line that is missing or a cheaper material.
Ways to control the cost without hurting quality
- Freeze the design before work starts. Changes midway are where budgets slip.
- Spend where hands touch. Prioritise durable hinges, drawer channels and handles that get daily use.
- Mix finishes. Use a premium finish on a few visible surfaces and laminate on the rest.
- Buy loose furniture later. Built-in work first, sofas and decor in stages.
- Pay against stages. Link each payment to work you can see.
- Keep a small reserve. Set aside a contingency based on the project's scope and risks.
Questions to ask an interior designer before you sign
- Can I visit a home you finished, and speak to the owner?
- Who will be on site day to day?
- Will I get 2D working drawings, or only 3D images?
- How are changes priced once work starts?
- What warranty do you give, and on what exactly?
Then put the final drawings, the material list, the price, payment stages, dates and warranty in a short written agreement before you pay the first amount.
Interiors in a new house: talk to your architect early
If you are building a new house, bring the interior designer in before the walls go up. Electrical points, plumbing lines, AC drains and ceiling heights are much cheaper to plan on paper than to change on site.
If you haven't picked an architect yet, read our guide on how to hire an architect in Gurugram. The same rule applies to both: get the scope in writing before you compare fees.

Items with sizes, carcass material and grade, finish and thickness, hardware brand and count, ceiling and electrical work, taxes, design fee and revisions, site visits, timeline, warranty and exclusions.
When should I bring in an interior designer for a new house?
Before the walls go up, so electrical points, plumbing lines, AC drains and ceiling heights are planned on paper rather than changed on site.
Where ConOS fits
Interiors bring in a lot of people at once: a designer, carpenters, an electrician, a painter, a false ceiling team, and suppliers for boards, hardware and lights. Most owners find each one through a different phone number.
ConOS is a construction network being built for Gurugram and Delhi NCR, and it is still at an early stage. The plan is to bring designers, contractors, suppliers and other construction professionals together in one place, each with their own profile. Many features are still being built. You can also read about ConOS in Hindi, and see how we handle your details in our privacy policy.
